Instructions for Authors
Guerra Colonial is a semi-annual digital magazine that publishes articles and research papers, referring to all areas of the history of colonialism from a war perspective, given the importance of the military component in the different phases of colonization and subsequent decolonization, although they can have room for texts related to the colonial world that are approached from other disciplines such as politics, sociology, philosophy, etc.
-Format
The articles will be between 6000 and 9000 words (including graphics, notes, tables, maps and bibliography). The texts will be written in Calibri font size 12 (notes in size 10), space 1.5, indentation in the first line 1.25 cm and margins of 2.5 cm.
-Presentation of the works
Each original will be preceded by a heading in which the postal and electronic addresses, telephone number and affiliation center will be recorded if necessary.
Abstracts of the article in Spanish and English (100 words maximum each) will be included, accompanied by five keywords and keywords, also in both languages.
The official languages ??of the magazine will be Spanish and English.
The originals must be unpublished and cannot be considered simultaneously by other magazines for publication.
If dividing headings are necessary, they will be written in bold and unnumbered, leaving double space from both the previous paragraph and the next one. In case of sub-pens, these will go without bold, unnumbered and in italics.
-Evaluation and selection
Guerra Colonial establishes a double-blind peer review process. The authors and evaluators are anonymous throughout the process. Despite having some external evaluators who collaborate with the magazine regularly, their identity is hidden. The evaluation process begins with the sending of the manuscript to the writing team through electronic support in pdf or word format. Received, the text is filtered to eliminate any type of identity of the author and is sent to two specialists for evaluation that can be both collaborating external evaluators and experts contacted for this purpose. Next to the text, a sample report is provided that the evaluator must duly complete and return to the writing in an estimated time. With a favorable report in both cases, it is published in a margin of one year. With an unfavorable report, the article is returned to its author for proper corrections or is discarded for publication.
Guerra Colonial reserves the right to decide whether or not to publish the article, after external evaluation of two specialists (peer evaluation). The final decision will be communicated to the author and, if not positive, the material will be destroyed.
-Criteria of style
The references will be in the text following the citation system as follows: In the text, if the author is not directly cited therein, the surname or surnames of the same, the year of edition and the page or are included in parentheses cited pages. If the author is cited directly in the text, only the year and pages are included in the parentheses. Eg "(Del Boca, 2000: 15)" or "in accordance with the statements of Angelo Del Boca (2000: 15)". In case the book has been used to present an idea or you want to refer to it in a generic way, instead of making a textual quote, the author's last name and the year of edition will be written, without having to indicate the number of page. Ex. «(Del Boca, 2000)».
However, you can also make footnotes duly indicated with a number. Eg "in accordance with Del Boca's proposals", the footnote being in size 10.
At the end of the article there should be a bibliographic relationship that will follow the following criteria:
-It will be done in alphabetical order.
-The works of the same author will be classified in chronological order.
-If more than one work published in the same year by the same author is mentioned, a lowercase letter will indicate the order, also valid for the text ("2000a", "2000b", "2000c", etc.)
The references at the end of the text will be according to the following criteria:
-Unique author book: Surname / s, Name, Title of the book. Place, editorial, year, page / s.
-Book of several authors (up to three): Surname / s, Name; Surname / s, Name and Surname / s, Name, Title of the book. Place, editorial, year, page / s.
-Book of several authors (more than three): Surname / s, Name et al., Title of the book. Place, editorial, year, page / s.
-Volume: Surname / s, Name, Title of the book. Volume: Volume title. Place, [editorial,] year, page / s.
-Book chapter: Surname / s, Name, “Chapter title”, in [Name Surname / s (ed.)], Book title. Place, editorial, year, page / s.
-Edition of collective work: Surname / s, Name (ed.), Title of the book. Place, editorial, year, page / s.
- Institutional edition: Organism, Title of the book. Place, editorial, year, page / s.
- Magazine article: Surname / s, Name, "Title", Name of the magazine, volume, page / s.
-Press: Name of the newspaper, day month year, [page / s].
-Document: FILE, Section, Series, Box number or file, Date. "Document title", page / s.
The names of the authors will always be lowercase, except in the case of the initials. Ex. Del Boca, A., The Ethiopian War (1936-1941). Chicago, University, 1969 in the final reference and (Del Boca) in the tex.
The abbreviations id., Ibid., Op. cit. and other Latin abbreviations will only be capitalized if they go to the beginning of the note; They will be written in plain text, without italics and will never be underlined. The titles of books and magazines, as well as words in a language other than the text, will be written in italics.
References will not be written p. or pp. before the page numbers, which will go alone after the comma.
If acronyms are used, they will be used without interleaved dots and the first time they appear in the text, they will be named in full by adding in parentheses (hereinafter ...) ex. The United Nations Organization (hereinafter UN) being used the other times: UN.
Low quotes («») will be used instead of the high quotes ("").
On the dates no abbreviations or syncopated forms will be used (for example: Dec 15, 1960). Both the text and the notes will be written in full (December 15, 1960).
